Date: 21/05/1938
Brother Prabhashankar, I received your letter. Balwant had visited me for a meeting.
About Ramnik, I should not say anything to Dr. Guilder. Such expenses should be
endured completely or else not be tolerated at all.endured completely or else not be tolerated at all.
In the matter of Babla, what should I say? Ask Keshu about whatever (queries) you
desire to ask. Kanu does not want to get married at the moment.
If Shashi can stay alone, then it is better to accommodate (Boarding School) him in
Panchgani. I don’t have any acquaintances in that High School.
Mohandas K Gandhi’s
(Va Ma) Vande Mataram

Written in black ink to a single side of the tissue paper. Folded, some later holes punched. Measures approx; 18cm x 12.5cm.

Summary of the letter, provided by the vendor: Gandhi writes to Prabhashankar, maternal Grandfather of Mr. Shashi Mehta (his best friend’s Grandson). Gandhi discusses various matters of the people at the (4th) Ashram in Sevagram, Wardha. Ramnik a patient, Dr. Guilder, Babla (to be trained by Gandhi’s secretary, Mahadev Desai) and few others. He believes in creating bright future prospects so that an individual can be worthy and of great service to oneself and the society at large, hence recommends Prabhashankar a reputed Boarding High school for Shashi, provided he can stay alone. Though he does not know anybody personally in the board or management there.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (2 October 1869 – 30 January 1948) was an Indian lawyer, anti-colonial nationalist and political ethicist who employed nonviolent resistance to lead the successful campaign for India's independence from British Rule, and in turn inspire movements for civil rights and freedom across the world. Gandhi's birthday, 2 October, is commemorated in India as Gandhi Jayanti, a national holiday, and worldwide as the International Day of Nonviolence. Gandhi is commonly, though not formally, considered the Father of the Nation in India, and was commonly called Bapu (Father).
