WORLD LEADERS - CHIANG KAI-SHEK (D.1975) - OFFICAL SIGNED CARD
World Leaders - Chiang Kai-Shek (1887-1975, Chinese political and military leader and President of the Republic of China 1948-49 and 1950-75) - ink signature in Chinese characters in black brush, written vertically in three characters on off-white card. The President Of The Republic Of China, plus embossed Sun decoration to top. 16cm x 9cm. Plus, a period black and white press photograph of Kai-Shek in military uniform, with details to reverse. 5x7". Further accompanied by the autograph of Madame Chiang Kai-Shek, Chiang's second wife and an important figure in Chinese politics. Autograph in blue ink to a small white card. (3)
Chiang Kai-shek (1887 – 1975) was a Chinese politician, revolutionary, and general who led the Republic of China (ROC) from 1928 until his death in 1975. His government was based in mainland China until it was defeated in the Chinese Civil War by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in 1949, after which he continued to lead the Republic of China on the island of Taiwan. Chiang served as leader of the Nationalist Kuomintang (KMT) party and the commander-in-chief of the National Revolutionary Army (NRA) from 1926 until his death.
Provenance: The Jan van Bree collection. Jan van Bree (1938-2024) was a Dutch native, and a prolific autograph collector. His collection began in 1957 when he wrote to the famous Italian singer Beniamino Gigli and received a handwritten reply. That one letter spurred Jan to write to as many famous people as possible, all over the world. From singers to scientists, actors to astronauts. Naturally, Jan also went autograph hunting in-person at major theaters in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Enschede. Hardly any event could pass without Jan obtaining a signature. In later years he also purchased autographs – usually of historical importance – from various trusted dealers and auction houses. His collection spanned around fifty albums, with many hundreds loose. He passed away in April 2024. His lifetime collection is offered here for sale without reserve.
