The Ronald Wolfe Collection – Romany Jones (LWT Sitcom 1972-1975) - original camera script for the first episode Series 1 Episode 1 'The More We Are Together' by John Watkins. 54pp on white stock, plus cover. Dated January 1973. Original fastener to corner, unmarked within.
Romany Jones was created by Ronald Wolfe and Ronald Chesney as a vehicle for actor James Beck. Whilst they wrote and created the pilot episode, other guest writers were used for the majority of the series due to the duo being occupied with other projects, namely On The Buses. Wolfe and Chesney did manage to pen some episodes, and the majority of the final fourth series.
Ronald Wolfe (1922-2011) was a British television, radio and cinema screenwriter, and one half of the Ronald Wolfe and Ronald Chesney writing partnership. Wolfe wrote for some of the biggest stars in Britain from the 1950s to the 1990s, and had major success with the sitcoms The Rag Trade, Meet The Wife and On The Buses. In later life he taught comedy writing at City University, London. He passed away in 2011. The items being offered for sale in this special auction are direct from his estate, and represent an important archive of British comedy, television, and radio history.
