17TH CENTURY LARGE JAPANESE ARITEA BLUE AND WHITE 'VOC CHARGER
A large Japanese Arita blue & white ' VOC ' charger, the central well with the monogram of the Dutch East India Company surrounded by two phoenixes amongst blossoming flowers, within floral panelled border, 17th century, 14.25" (36.2cm) dia. Dishes of this type bearing the 'VOC' monogram are thought to have been commissioned for officers and staff of the Dutch East India Company.
