Three icons of childhood Sooty, Sweep, and Soo are set to sell for thousands of pounds later this month in our Autographs & Memorabilia Auction.
Generations of television fans will have the rare opportunity to own a special piece of broadcasting history, as the iconic trio of Sooty, Sweep, and Soo heads to auction. They are three of the actual puppets used during the Sooty Show in the mid-2000s, and represent a significant moment for collectors of British pop culture and children’s television history.
The puppets were donated by Sooty’s owner Richard Cadell to the Downend Tangent Ladies Group at a special dinner held in Bristol in October last year, and they are now being sold to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
The collection includes the legendary yellow bear himself, Sooty, alongside his mischievous sausage-loving companion Sweep and the sensible panda, Soo. Each puppet has been signed by Richard Cadell to the inside.
‘I was unbelievably excited when I was told we would be getting these iconic puppets in our saleroom,’ says auctioneer Andrew Stowe. ‘I grew up watching Sooty, and to be able to have an original set of puppets sat on my desk is just incredible. The fact they are being sold to raise funds for such a worthwhile charity is the cherry on top’.

He emphasizes that seeing the full cast together in a single auction is an incredibly rare occurrence that is expected to draw international interest. ‘The Sooty Show is the longest-running children’s television programme in the world. We’ve had the puppets on display in our saleroom for a few weeks and everyone – adults and children alike – stop and smile. Sooty and his friends just bring out the child in all of us!’
Sooty, Sweep and Soo feature in our Autographs & Memorabilia online auction which ends on Wednesday 25th February. The full details and catalogue can be viewed right HERE.
